21st Cowboy Christmas Poetry Cathering – DEC. 4-5, 2009
Cowboy poets, singers and musicians from across the Southwest will meet in Wickenburg for the
21st Annual Cowboy Christmas Poetry Gathering.
The gathering is not a contest – there are no prizes and no winners, rather it is a place and time when cowboys, ranchers and folks involved in raising and caring for cattle and horses get together to celebrate the present in poetry, songs and story, just as they did over 146 years ago.
Invited cowboy poets will mingle with guests at a Cowboy Cocktail Reception from on Friday, December 4th from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. The Reception includes cocktails and appetizers at the Desert Caballeros Western Museum, located at 21 North Frontier Street. Limited tickets are available for the reception @$15 per person.
Most of the action will take place on Saturday starting with a cowboy Dutch-oven biscuits n’ gravy and cowboy coffee from 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. - $3 donation in the north side parking area of the Wickenburg Community Center, 160 N. Valentine Street in the historic district of downtown Wickenburg.
The Free Day Sessions begin at 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., and include Sessions of storytelling, cowboy poetry readings and singin’ which are held every 30 minutes in the center.
On Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. in the Del E. Webb Center for the Performing Arts, 1090 S. Vulture Mine Road, cowboy poet/humorist Baxter Black, and cowboy poet singer, Brenn Hill will be on stage. Admission: $20 advance tickets - $25 at the door.
Cowboy Christmas Gathering concludes on Sunday, December 6th with a non-denominational Cowboy Worship Service at 9:00 a.m., held inside the Wickenburg Community Center.
